Reinforced concrete garage pad poured in Winnipeg

What's Included in Your Garage Pad

A garage pad carries concentrated loads from vehicles, jacks and equipment, so the base and reinforcement are not optional. We excavate to depth, build and compact a granular base, and form the slab with the correct thickened edges where the walls will bear. We lay rebar or mesh on chairs and pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, typically at least 4 inches through the field with thicker perimeter beams.

We finish the slab flat and level, slope it slightly toward the door for drainage, and set any anchor bolts or sleeves your builder specifies. Control joints are cut to manage cracking, and the surface is sealed. The result is a pad that is square, level and ready for framing.

Common Signs You Need This Service

  • An old pad that has cracked, settled or heaved out of level
  • A garage floor that traps melt water instead of draining to the door
  • Preparing to build a new detached garage or replace a rotten slab
  • Frost movement that has lifted one corner and racked the structure

Our Process

  1. Free estimate. We confirm dimensions with you or your builder and give a written price.
  2. Excavate and base. We dig, place and compact the granular base and thickened footings.
  3. Form and reinforce. We form the slab, set perimeter beams, and lay rebar or mesh.
  4. Pour and finish. We place 32 MPa concrete, level it, slope to the door, and set anchors.
  5. Joints, seal, cleanup. We cut joints, seal the slab, and leave a clean, build-ready pad.

Standard and Heated Pads

Most garage pads are poured as a standard reinforced slab with a broom or smooth finish. If you want a warm, dry floor to work on through winter, we also install in-floor heated pads, where PEX tubing is tied into the reinforcement before the pour so radiant heat rises through the slab.

Thickness and reinforcement scale with use. A pad for a car and storage is different from one meant for a hoist or heavy equipment, so we spec the slab to what you will actually put on it. Getting the perimeter footings right is what keeps the whole structure from shifting with frost.

Winnipeg Context

In Winnipeg the biggest enemy of a garage pad is frost heave. Manitoba frost can reach several feet down, and a slab poured on a weak base will lift and rack the garage above it, jamming doors and cracking walls. We build thickened, well-drained footings below the field slab so the pad stays put through the freeze-thaw cycle year after year.

What Affects Your Price

Garage pad pricing depends on the pad size, slab and footing thickness, reinforcement, whether in-floor heat is added, site access and the base condition. A simple single-car pad on good ground costs less than a heated double pad with deep footings. We provide free written estimates and coordinate directly with your builder if you have one.

Frequently Asked Questions

How thick is a concrete garage pad?

Field slabs are commonly poured at 4 inches of 32 MPa concrete with thicker perimeter beams where the walls bear. Heavier use calls for a thicker slab and more reinforcement, which we spec to your needs.

Can you pour a heated garage floor?

Yes. We tie PEX tubing into the reinforcement before the pour so radiant in-floor heat warms the slab from below. It keeps the floor dry and comfortable all winter.

Do you coordinate with my garage builder?

Yes. We confirm dimensions, anchor bolt locations and slab spec with your builder so the pad is ready for framing the day it cures.

Why did my old garage pad crack and heave?

Almost always a poor base. Without a compacted, well-drained base frost lifts the slab. We rebuild the base properly so the new pad stays level.
